566 Baptised in Madagascar After Christian Outreach Treats More Than 9,000 Patients

A Christian evangelism campaign in Madagascar has concluded with 566 baptisms after an outreach that also provided healthcare to more than 9,000 people, according to Adventist News Network.

The “Madagascar for Christ” campaign combined four days of medical care with eight days of evangelistic meetings in Antananarivo and surrounding areas.

The campaign was led by Adventist World Radio in partnership with the Indian Ocean Union Conference, Central Malagasy Conference and the Adventist Development and Relief Agency, known as ADRA.

Madagascar’s Ministry of Public Health was also involved in the health component of the outreach.

Around 600 international and local volunteers took part, including doctors, nurses, other health professionals and translators.

From 25 to 28 August, volunteers operated a four-day health fair at Barea Mahamasina Stadium. Organisers reported that more than 9,000 patients received treatment during the event.

The healthcare programme was followed by eight days of evangelistic meetings held at multiple locations across the area.

The meetings addressed Christian themes including salvation, hope, biblical prophecy and the second coming of Christ.

The campaign culminated on 5 September, when organisers reported that 566 people were baptised.

Local churches are now focusing on supporting and integrating those who were baptised following the campaign.

The outreach brought together practical assistance and Christian evangelism on a substantial scale, with hundreds of volunteers providing healthcare before the series of Gospel meetings.

More than 9,000 people received medical treatment during the health programme, while hundreds subsequently made a public profession of Christian faith through baptism.

The figures were reported by Adventist News Network, the official news service of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and are organisationally reported rather than independently audited.
